Why we play

Who was Ryan williams?

Ryan Williams was a 31-year-old loving husband and father of 2 boys.

Beyond loving his family and friends, Ryan loved Batman, the Philadelphia Eagles, the New York Yankees and playing softball.

Anyone who knew Ryan knew that there was very little that would make him miss a game, and if you needed to find him on a Sunday- you better check the softball fields. Not only did he consider his team his friends- they were family.

Ryan lived with epilepsy and unfortunately in May of 2019 a fatal complication of epilepsy called SUDEP took his life.

SUDEP is known as Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy. SUDEP is the term used when a seemingly healthy person with epilepsy dies and there is no obvious reason why. At this time, we still do not know why SUDEP occurs.

SUDEP impacts 1 in 1,000 people with epilepsy.

The 1st Annual Ryan Williams Softball Tournament was in 2022
